Pontianak - WWF-Indonesia West Kalimantan Program invites children from an early age to care about orangutan rescue efforts. This step is considered important to instill the value of conservation to children since they are still in kindergarten.
The campaign, which uses educational and interactive methods, is part of the World Orangutan Day celebration, which is celebrated every August 19. A total of 60 kindergarten students from 5 schools in Pontianak along with several accompanying teachers and parents attended the WWF Office on August 28 to enliven the annual momentum.
WWF-Indonesia's West Kalimantan Program Manager, Albertus Tjiu said, this campaign aims to build public awareness and concern, especially early childhood. "We are trying to build children's awareness of animals such as Orangutans, including natural resources and other important biodiversity," he said in Pontianak, Thursday (27/8/2015).
In addition, Albert continued, his party is also trying to build public sensitivity to various problems that can threaten the sustainability of animal species and natural resources as a human life support system.
"They will grow up to be the next generation. We are obliged to guide them from an early age and instill the value of compassion for fellow living beings such as orangutans. We introduce the animals through pictures, then guide them so that one day they will love them," said Albert.
It is hoped that this activity can be an effective medium of awareness and learning for early childhood in urban areas, that orangutans live in forests not in zoos, and that orangutans are protected animals that should not be kept.
