WWF-INDONESIA SUPPORTS ORGANIC COMMUNITIES TO CAMPAIGN FOR SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Following the launch of the 'Sustainable Consumption and Production - Thailand, Indonesia and Philippine' (SCP-TIP) program in Indonesia last July 2017, WWF-Indonesia has established its support to the Indonesian Organic Community (KOI). This was stated in Dewi Satriani's speech, as Campaign and Mobilization Manager of WWF-Indonesia at the opening of Organic, Green and Healthy Expo 7 (OGHExpo 7). Organic, Green and Healthy Expo is an annual activity of the Indonesian Organic Community that displays a variety of organic products consisting of food products, body care to household appliances that support an organic lifestyle.
In its seventh implementation this time, the OGH Expo was attended by up to 217 producers. This number is a significant increase from OGH Expo 1 which was attended by only 30 producers. This increase shows the development of the organic product market in big cities. Until now, the Indonesian Organic Community, which is in the form of a cooperative, has succeeded in attracting no less than 800 members spread across 5 major cities in Indonesia, namely Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya and Denpasar.
Through the implementation of the SCP-TIP program, WWF-Indonesia will grant part of the program funds for the development and empowerment of the Indonesian Organic Community to become an agent for disseminating information about sustainable consumption and production. Through the funding provided, WWF-Indonesia targets to increase the capacity of the community, especially KOI producer members in informing and educating consumers about sustainable consumption behavior.
