WWF-INDONESIA ASSISTS 2 UMKM TO ACHIEVE ECO-FRIENDLY PALM OIL CERTIFICATION: ENCOURAGING SUSTAINABLE PALM OIL IN THE DOWNSTREAM SECTOR
As a form of commitment to encourage sustainable business practices in various sectors, WWF-Indonesia, together with partners and assisted MSMEs in attending the Inacraft event, one of the largest exhibitions for MSME players in Indonesia. Through this participation, WWF-Indonesia shows its support for the implementation of sustainability principles at the small and medium enterprise level, which has an important role in the national supply chain.
In encouraging sustainable practices in commodities in Indonesia, WWF-Indonesia applies a comprehensive approach from upstream to downstream, including in the sustainable palm oil sector. In the upstream sector, WWF-Indonesia focuses on assisting sustainable agricultural practices and traceability, while in the downstream sector, WWF-Indonesia actively invites industry players such as hotels, restaurants, cafes, and the consumer goods industry to use certified sustainable palm oil derivative products.
The success of this approach is reflected in two WWF-Indonesia's assisted partners, namely Spa Factory Bali and Forum Pengembangan Kampoeng Batik Laweyan (FPKBL), which successfully achieved the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Supply Chain Certification Standards (SCCS) sustainable palm ecolabel certification.

WWF-Indonesia's strategy starts from concrete and realistic steps by making MSMEs the driving force of change. The hope is that this initiative can create a rolling effect to encourage the involvement of large-scale industry players.
In the INACRAFT Vol 4 2025 talk show session titled "Sustainability Meets Creativity", Irfan Bakhtiar, WWF-Indonesia's Director of Climate and Market Transformation, shared stories about the important role of the downstream sector in supporting the sustainable palm oil industry. In its journey, WWF-Indonesia invites horeca (hotel, restaurant & cafe) and industry players to use responsible palm oil. This step is one way to prove that if small-scale businesses can successfully implement environmentally friendly practices, larger-scale businesses are believed to be able to do the same.
In the process, WWF-Indonesia does not walk alone; many collaborations pave the way to healthy competition. When one party moves, others are encouraged, and from there, sustainability can grow. The talk show was closed with the handover of RSPO SCCS certificates to Spa Factory Bali and FPKBL, and the launch of FPKBL's latest decorative candle product. This success is fuel for WWF-Indonesia to continue assisting more industry partners in realizing a sustainable palm oil supply chain, both in the domestic and global markets.
