WWF- INDONESIA AND TOURISM DEPARTMENT SIGNED MOU ON ECOTOURISM IN THE HEART OF BORNEO
WWF-Indonesia and Indonesia Tourism Department committed to work together to develop ecotourism in the Heart of Borneo, for five years from 2008 to 2013. In a side event of BIMP-EAGA Tourism Meeting in Manado, on the first November 2008, Mubariq Ahmad of WWF-Indonesia and Firmansyah Rahim of Indonesia Tourism Department signed Memorandum of Understanding on Community-based Ecotourism Development in Heart of Borneo.
Ecotourism development is one of the three countries’ main collaborative programs. The cooperation between WWF-Indonesia and Indonesia Tourism Department is translating international and national frame into concrete actions to ensure that Heart of Borneo environmental conservation is providing economic benefit especially for local communities in East, West and Central Kalimantan provinces and along the borders of Indonesia-Malaysia.
In the conference, and through media interactions and exhibition booth, Heart of Borneo and Coral Triangle promotion and profiling were made possible to participants and visitors of the event from October 30-31, 2008.
