WWF-INDONESIA AND RECKITT BOOST EMPLOYEE AWARENESS ON CLIMATE CRISIS AND WATER RESOURCES SUSTAINABILITY
At Reckitt Benckiser Cileungsi, a step was taken to strengthen the corporation's commitment to environmental sustainability. In the midst of the increasing threat of climate crisis and the declining quality of water resources, companies are now not only required to maintain productivity, but also take a role in maintaining environmental sustainability. Entitled "Collaborative Water Conservation Education for Reckitt Employees", this activity is part of the HS Month 2026 series which raises the issues of health (Health), safety (Safety), and environment (Environment) as important foundations of corporate sustainability.
The atmosphere of the Water Conservation Education Collaboration for Reckitt Employees organized jointly by WWF-Indonesia and Reckitt was warm and full of reflection on the importance of protecting the environment amid the threat of climate crisis. Mr. Agung from the HSE team said that concern for energy and water is not only the responsibility of the company, but needs to be a daily habit that starts from each home. Today's environmental issues are long-term investments for safety, health and business continuity in the future.
The first session was presented by Rizka Nurul Annisa from WWF-Indonesia's Sustainable Commodities Team who invited participants to see the connection between humans and nature, and understand that sustainable practices not only protect the environment, but also support the lives and welfare of communities. The collaboration between WWF and Reckitt in assisting independent oil palm smallholders through the Strategy Jangka Benah (SJB) program helps farmers increase productivity in a way that still protects nature. One of the examples shared with farmers is the assistance of independent smallholders in the data collection process for traceability and STDB data collection.
WWF-Indonesia also introduced HAMURNI, a digital innovation used to help ensure palm commodities can be traced more transparently from plantation to mill. This system is an important step in strengthening responsible commodity governance, while opening up opportunities for smallholders to be part of a more sustainable supply chain.
To date, a number of farmers have been officially registered on the HAMURNI platform for the Reckitt project, with their location information clearly mapped out. These farmers will be encouraged to join the STDB program. The story of landscape change in Central Kalimantan was an interesting highlight of the session. About 50 hectares of monoculture oil palm land that was previously only planted with one type of crop has now been restored to a more diverse agroforestry area. Coffee, durian, and various local plants began to grow side by side, bringing new hope for the environment as well as additional sources of income for the surrounding community. WWF's assistance also reaches out to MSME players, such as the Kampoeng Batik Laweyan Development Forum, which became the first batik MSME in the world with RSPO certification, to Spa Factory Bali, which has successfully penetrated the European export market through personal care products made from sustainable palm oil.

In the next session, Iqlima Ghalih Azzahra from the Climate & Energy Team invited participants to dive into the reality of the global climate crisis, where water is now at the center of the problem. Through a light yet evocative delivery, she explained that the increase in the earth's temperature by 1.5°C-1.6°C has triggered various disasters such as droughts, floods, forest fires, and extreme weather. This climate imbalance directly threatens the availability of clean water, as natural water sources are shrinking and being damaged. This reality is also happening in Indonesia, where the challenge of fulfilling clean water is increasingly concerning as most of the remaining groundwater reserves continue to experience pollution. The complexity of this crisis is a sign that water issues have now become an urgent systemic challenge.
For the industrial sector, this reality has made them realize that water management is not enough if it is only done within the fences of the company's operations. As a solution, the concept of Water Stewardship was introduced as an approach that does not only focus on internal efficiency, but also maintains the sustainability of water sources collectively with other stakeholders. Reckitt is encouraged to be actively involved with communities and governments in water source restoration and public education. This step emphasizes that water conservation is no longer just a social action, but a strategic investment for business sustainability. Water risks, climate change and environmental degradation are now challenges that companies need to anticipate through collaborative and sustainable measures.
.
Answering the challenge, the session continued with Syifa Rifqa Ainur Rahmah from the Sustainable Finance Team showing how environmental issues are now part of modern business strategies. She introduced WWF's Risk Filter Suite (RFS), a web-based platform that helps companies map environmental risks through spatial data visualization or heat maps. Companies can see operational areas with high risk to physical, regulatory/regulatory functions ecosystem services, as well as corporate reputation. Interestingly, this approach has been used by global companies such as H&M Group and in Indonesia has also begun to be used by institutions such as PLN and PT SMI.
Towards the end of the activity, participants were invited to look back at how the choices they make every day can contribute to a more sustainable future through the "Buy Good" campaign. The campaign reminds that simple steps such as buying according to your needs, choosing local products, using eco-labeled products, and thinking about where your waste will end up have a big impact on the earth. In the discussion, participants not only gained new knowledge, but were invited to see that big changes to the environment can start from small decisions that are made every day.
Through this collaboration, WWF-Indonesia and Reckitt not only present a space to learn about water conservation and sustainability, but instill awareness that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. Hopefully, the spirit built in this activity can continue to grow into real action, both in the work environment and in everyday life.
