WWF HOLDS CARNIVAL FOR EARTH "SHOW YOUR LOVE AND ACTION FOR EARTH"
Car-Free Day Jakarta, October 12, 2014 As a form of appreciation for the support of its loyal supporters who currently number 67,000 people, WWF-Indonesia held an activity entitled "Carnival for the Earth: Show Your Love and Action for the Earth". The event, which is included in the annual agenda of 'WWF Supporter Gathering', is a place to meet face-to-face and intimacy between supporters as well as a place for the public to get to know WWF-Indonesia's main fundraising programs, namely the Sahabat series, Warrior series, and Nature Guardian series. On that occasion, the public can also directly register and join as a new supporter of WWF-Indonesia.
Starting from the area around the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue, the long march mass consisting of supporters and the public was released by Marco Lambertini, Director General WWF International. The mass moved towards Menara BCA with a black dresscode and various animal paintings on their faces. Along the way, they shouted chants that were expressions of love for the earth. It is estimated that more than 1,000 expressions of love for the earth spread widely through social media with the hashtag #DBFE (Do Better For Earth).
Amidst the mass walk, there was a procession of lanterns in the shape of rare Indonesian umbrella species (species that have a wide range and thus require large habitats that can also be inhabited by other species). The umbrella species that are the focus of WWF-Indonesia's conservation work are orangutans, tigers, turtles, elephants and rhinos. The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) has declared all five umbrella species to be critically endangered.
Susilowati Lestari, Public and Supporter Relation Manager WWF-Indonesia, called the moment of the day as a forum for friendship between WWF-Indonesia supporters who continue to support the work of the oldest conservation organization in Indonesia. "Supporter Gathering is a form of appreciation and expression of our deepest gratitude to the supporters who always support WWF-Indonesia through donations to our conservation programs, such as Elephant Warrior, Tiger Warrior, Orangutan Warrior, Turtle Warrior, and other donation programs. We hope that today's activity can raise our awareness to protect the earth, where we depend on for life and livelihood, by implementing a green lifestyle that is environmentally friendly."
At the end of the fun walk in the area around Menara BCA, supporters stamped their hands to show their support and love for a sustainable earth. They were then entertained by eco-friendly music performances, showcased their recycled waste creations, and received a variety of special prizes from WWF-Indonesia.
It was noted that a number of communities were actively involved in the morning activities. Among them were Earth Hour Indonesia, Tangerang, and Bandung communities, Kresipah Stomp community (eco-friendly music), Kampung Segart community (fine arts, face painting), and others.
