WWF AND KUALA NET COMPILE REEF FISH DATA IN ACEH
By Windy Rizki
JARING-Nusantara or known as JARNUS, is again spreading its wings. This time, the Coalition Network for Aceh Marine Advocacy (Jaring KuALA) together with WWF-Indonesia compiled a reef fish data collection protocol. The preparation aims to determine the stock of reef fish in Aceh. The activity which was packaged in the form of workshop was held at the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries Sciences (FKIP) Syiah Kuala University Aceh on August 19.
, and Lamjabat Foundation) which began with the presentation of fisheries conditions in Aceh and Aceh Besar, problems, declarations, and signing a commitment to be active and participate in reef fish data collection. This was followed by a presentation of national fisheries issues, discussion and questions and answers, and a presentation of the Productivity Susceptibility Analysis (PSA) method. This activity is a series of JARNUS member activities whose ultimate goal is the preparation of reef fish data collection protocols related to aspects of reef fish habitat, ecology, biology, and morphology (target species, retained species, Endangered, Threatened, and Protected species - ETP, bycatch species - bycatch). The data collection plan will be conducted in Aceh Besar and Aceh Jaya districts with the assistance of Syiah Kuala University, BPPL, and Lamjabat Foundation which is one of the members of Jaring KuALA.
Jaring KuALA appears to be very excited about the implementation of this activity because it also has a mission to have a data bank on coastal and fisheries in Aceh. This activity has successfully gathered commitments for the collection of reef fish and coastal data in Aceh and developed protocols for estimating reef fish stocks in Aceh. It is hoped that data on coastal and fisheries in all districts of Aceh will be compiled into a single database that will facilitate its use for better fisheries management. As a follow-up to this workshop, there will be a follow-up meeting to compile reef fish data in September.
