TRAINING ON LAND USE MONITORING PLATFORM AND ESG ASPECTS OF MINING SECTOR FOR CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS IN CENTRAL SULAWESI
Auriga Nusantara has organized two capacity building trainings for civil society organizations in Central Sulawesi to strengthen environmental monitoring and data-based natural resource governance. This activity was carried out in response to increasing pressure on living spaces, landscapes and community-managed areas due to land use change and the expansion of mining activities in the region.

The first training focused on monitoring land use and cover change through the use of the Mapbiomas Indonesia platform. In this training, participants were introduced to how to access and analyze spatial data on periodic land cover change, explore the dynamics of deforestation and land conversion, and relate data findings to local context and policies. This approach encourages the use of science-based data as a basis for environmental monitoring and advocacy.
The second training discussed monitoring the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) aspects of the mining sector through the use of Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and the Responsible Mining Index (RMI). Participants learned how to collect, verify and analyze information from various open sources to identify risks, impacts and mining companies' commitments to environmental, social and governance issues.

A total of 19 participants took part in this series of trainings, consisting of 9 women and 10 men, and representing 11 civil society organizations (CSOs) working in Central Sulawesi. Through this activity, Auriga Nusantara hopes to strengthen the capacity of local civil society in conducting independent monitoring, promoting transparency and accountability in the land-based and extractive sectors, and supporting more equitable and sustainable natural resource management.
