TAROF-KOKODA, A HARMONY OF UTILIZING MARINE RESOURCES THAT MUST BE MAINTAINED
"Many smart and innovative people are born from South Sorong Regency, they are raised through natural resources, especially the sea. High protein is sourced from the sea of South Sorong, one of which is shrimp. The potential of the sea has long been utilized by coastal communities into healthy food ingredients, "said one of the community leaders as well as religious leaders in Tarof-Kokoda Village, Mr. Haji Hasan Kabes.
A survey conducted by WWF-Indonesia as an implementing partner of the USAID SEA Project in 2017 in South Sorong District, revealed the potential of shrimp fisheries of around 1,386 tons. The survey also showed that the Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE) of shrimp caught by fishermen was estimated at 18.98 kg/trip where the fishing gear mostly used trammel net.
