SOWING THE MIND FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Synopsis
The earth faces increasingly pressing challenges that require an integrated approach to environmental, social and economic aspects. As a step forward, the 2002 World Conference on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg, South Africa paved the way for the UN General Assembly to pass resolution 57/254 designating 2005-2014 as the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development.
This means that there is an awareness that sustainable development must be integrated as early as possible through education. Thus, with the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, it is evident that Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is increasingly strategic, not only for the year 2030 (when the SDGs are expected to be achieved), but also for the following years when the world community needs guidance to achieve a sustainable policy direction.
This book collects stories of WWF-Indonesia's ESD team's journey with partners across Indonesia. Together, they are driving the transformation of development in various work sites towards achieving sustainable development. This is an important record as evidence that the vortex of positive change begins with the enlightenment of stakeholders through education, especially Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
