SMALL STEPS, BIG IMPACT: STREET CAMPAIGN AND SWITCH OFF EARTH HOUR 2026 ACTION IN ACEH
The Earth Hour Aceh community once again showed its commitment to environmental issues by organizing a series of Switch Off Earth Hour 2026 activities which took place on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Bustanussslatin Park and Banda Aceh City Hall Building. This activity consists of two main agendas, namely the Street Campaign in the morning and the symbolic action of Switch Off in the evening involving various communities, government agencies, and the public with the theme "Small Steps to Save Energy to Prevent Disasters for the Preservation of Elephant Habitat in Aceh". This activity is not only a symbol of concern for the environment, but also a space for collaboration between volunteers, communities, and agencies in building mutual awareness of the importance of protecting the earth.
This year is also a special moment, because Earth Hour Global is entering its 20th year - two decades of collective movement from millions of people around the world who continue to voice hope for the earth. In Indonesia, the Earth Hour 2026 ceremony will be held offline in Banda Aceh City.
This series of activities begins with the Street Campaign which is held in the morning, from 07.00 to 11.00 WIB with the route Taman Sari - Meuligo Governor - Tugu Adipura - Mesjid Raya Baiturrahman - Taman Sari. In the midst of community activities that are enjoying the weekend atmosphere, the action participants are present to bring environmental messages in a communicative and interactive way.
Through a friendly approach, the participants invited the public to be more concerned about the issue of elephants, especially in Aceh, as well as other wildlife by protecting their natural habitat. Through their speeches, the public was also invited to understand that conflicts between humans and wildlife do not occur suddenly, but are the result of the narrowing of the animals' living space.
With straightforward language, the speech described how elephants as one of the key animals in the ecosystem must now face serious threats, ranging from habitat loss, lack of food sources, to conflicts with humans. This message was delivered not to blame, but to raise awareness that the survival of animals is also very dependent on how humans protect the environment.
The enthusiasm of the community can be seen from the interaction during the activity. Many visitors stopped to listen to the speeches and ask questions related to environmental issues. This shows that when issues are presented in a way that touches the human side, collective awareness can grow stronger.

Entering the evening, the series of activities continued with the culminating action, namely Switch Off which was held at 20.00 to 23.00 WIB at the Banda Aceh City Hall Building. In a more solemn atmosphere, the moment of turning off the lights for one hour symbolizes a shared commitment to reduce energy consumption and reduce the impact of climate change.
When the lights went out, the atmosphere at City Hall became calmer and more reflective. This moment is not only a symbolic action, but also presents a space for people to reflect on the relationship between humans and the environment. That behind the simplicity of turning off the lights, there is a big message about collective responsibility in maintaining the sustainability of the earth.
Switch Off also serves as a reminder that change doesn't always have to start big. Instead, small steps taken together have the power to create significant impact. This spirit of togetherness is at the heart of Earth Hour, where every individual has an important role to play in safeguarding the future of the environment.
Through this series of activities, Earth Hour 2026 in Banda Aceh will not only stop as an annual ceremony, but also become a momentum to foster sustainable awareness. Hopefully, the messages conveyed through the Street Campaign and the Switch Off action can continue to live in people's daily lives, encouraging behavioral changes towards a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.
Earth Hour 2026 in Banda Aceh is not just an annual ceremony, but also a momentum to foster sustainable awareness.
At the end of the day, Earth Hour is not just about turning off the lights for an hour, but about igniting the realization that the earth needs real attention from every individual. From the issue of elephants losing their habitat to simple steps to save energy, everything is interconnected in one goal: maintaining the balance of nature. Through this action, it is hoped that this awareness will not stop at one day of commemoration, but will continue to live and grow in every small step we take going forward.
