SCP'S EDUCATIONAL #LIVEGREENER CAMPAIGN AT HAPPINESS FESTIVAL
Utilizing the moment of Happiness Festival organized by Unity in Diversity and Project Semesta, the #LiveGreener Campaign held a screening and discussion of the movie 'Cowspiracy' to educate the public about the negative impact of consumption on environmental sustainability. The documentary film by directors Kip Sandersen and Keegan Kuhn highlights the livestock industry as the largest contributor to carbon emissions in the world. The two directors interviewed a number of organizations, including meat and dairy producers and environmental NGOs, to validate this assumption.
The discussion session featured WWF-Indonesia as one of the speakers, along with Chef Max Mandias from Burgreens and Dr. Amaranila from MataCinta and moderated by Annabella Jusuf, vegan influencer and activist. The discussion with the three speakers explored various aspects around responsible consumption actions. Responding to the moderator's question on how consumers can reduce greenhouse gas emissions besides adopting a vegan lifestyle, the WWF representative explained about the Buy Good campaign with its six main messages, namely Buy Necessary, Buy Natural, Buy Local, Buy Sustainable, Buy Ecolabeled and Where to Go. Chef Max focused his explanation on the plant-based lifestyle that is now increasingly embraced by world figures, from Einstein to J.Lo. Doctor Amaranila from MataCinta highlighted the issue of waste in Indonesia which has been very dangerous and affects the nutritional intake of children in Indonesia.
All three speakers agreed on excessive consumption activities and without sufficient understanding and concern for environmental impacts as a key cause of environmental degradation that is happening today. Closing the discussion and the evening's nobar session, the three speakers invited participants to become more critical and frugal consumers in consuming. By realizing the 'ecological footprint' of each of our consumption activities, there is an opportunity to improve the condition of the earth through changes in our consumption patterns.
The #LiveGreener campaign was held as part of the implementation of the Sustainable Consumption and Production - Thailand, Indonesia, Philippine (SCP-TIP) project run by WWF-Indonesia with funding support from the German government through the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
