Sanny Tri Utami is a 2015 graduate of Bachelor of Marine Science from Padjajaran University Bandung. During college, Sanny was active in the IMPACT Community which focuses on the protection of protected marine biota. She has been involved in the preparation of the Zoning Plan for Coastal Areas and Small Islands (RZWP3K) of Morotai Island Regency as an expert assistant for coastal marine ecosystem surveys.
In 2014, Sanny was trusted to lead coral reef monitoring on Biawak Island with OSEANIK, a diving club that gave him a lot of knowledge about ecosystems and conservation in the ocean. His interest in shark conservation arose when he conducted shark research with Morotai Shark Diving Indonesia in May 2015.
After graduating from college, Sanny joined as a Bycatch and Sharks Conservation Assistant at WWF-Indonesia since 2016. Sanny is responsible for assisting the Jakarta Regional Regulation policy on shark protection and is in charge of socializing Better Management Practices (BMP) to at least 1000 fishermen in Banyuwangi and Paloh, West Kalimantan. This training is conducted as a first line of defense for fishermen as the main actors in order to reduce bycatch mortality.
