PES OR (A)PES?
By: Ignatia Dyahapsari (WWF-Indonesia)
The time we will spend on board the Menami is quite long. The voyage totaled approximately ten days. Apparently, our male friends already had their own plans to entertain themselves.
On the first day of training in the beginning of #XPDCSULTRA, I saw Evi (WWF-Indonesia) and Opik (Taufik Abdillah, WWF-Indonesia) welcoming Yuli (Syarif Yulius, WWF-Indonesia) with smiling faces. The first question they asked was, "Did we get Yul?" with a coded look at Yuli.
"Yes, I got it, I got it!" Yuli answered with a smile.
I was curious what they were talking about. Yuli then handed me a black plastic bag. When I asked Opik, he replied, "It's normal, men's business."
One evening, after a few days of data collection and of course after spending a long time on Menami, Evi excitedly turned on the television. I was about to go downstairs to the dining room to get something when Opik stopped me. "Ri, leave the one in the black plastic bag!" he said, asking me to help him get something as he walked.
I asked back, "What the heck is in it?"
"Stick PS (PlayStation)!" Opik replied in the end.
It turned out that all this time, their "male business" with Yuli was a PS stick to entertain themselves on the ship. Just then, the TV was turned on and Evi was staring at the screen of PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) while laughing. The TV room became very crowded filled with screams and laughter from Evi, Angga (Reef Check Indonesia), Jibriel (Reef Check Indonesia), and Opik.
"Here it is!" exclaimed Opik excitedly while pulling out a PS stick. Again Evi, Jibril, Angga, and Yuli enlivened the room.
However, the atmosphere changed instantly when Opik then shouted, "Wow, this is a PS stick to plug into the PS!"
The whole room burst out laughing at Evi and Opik's disappointed faces.
As it turned out, what was ordered and supposed to be bought was a PS stick that could be connected to a laptop because there was no PS device. Yuli, who bought it, spoke up, "It's hard to find, I've been going around and around and can't find it."
What's even sadder is that Evi had just installed the PES on her laptop in the morning to play that night. As it turned out, the plan to entertain herself failed. Anticlimactic shipboard fun.
