ONE MILLION TONS OF ELEPHANT IVORY DESTROYED IN TIMES SQUARE, NEW YORK
The US government destroyed a ton of ivory that entered the country. The destruction took place in New York's Times Square on June 19. The event was attended by celebrities, journalists, congressmen, and conservation organizations as observers.
WWF supports this ivory destruction effort, this event is very good to stop the consumption of ivory so as to prevent ivory entering the US.
Last Novermber 2013, the US also destroyed about six tons in Denver, WWF as one of the organizations that partnered with the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS)
This event is an excellent opportunity to call on the global community to reduce ivory consumption, and to urge the USFWS to promulgate long-overdue regulations to end the commercial consumption and sale of ivory.
