MENARBU MARINE GUARD GROUP
The Menarbu Village Sasi Management Group is a community group appointed by the Decree of the Menarbu Village Head dated March 10, 2018. The group is chaired by Yohanes Ayamiseba, the secretary is Rev. Musa Bisai S.Si and the Treasurer is Yosias Menarbu with a composition of 3 core administrators and 9 members. Members consist of young people who have the task of collecting data (with assistance) and conducting supervision. The sasi manager of Menarbu Village has the main tasks of recording, organizing and supervising. WWF-Indonesia facilitated the Monitoring Team through training on data collection of coral cover, reef fish and megabenthics (clams, lola, sea cucumbers). As a result of this training, the group has recorded data in their Sasi area in October 2019 and February 2020. The data they collected with the assistance of WWF-Indonesia became very important data for mapping the potential of the Sasi area of Menarbu Village and as information in the governance of the area.
This data has been presented by Yohanes to the Wondama Bay Regional Government on March 3, 2020, and the West Papua Provincial Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office and the Cenderawasih Bay National Park Office on March 6, 2019 during the socialization and coordination activities related to open Sasi Kampung Menarbu. This group enforces customary rules during Sasi closure and ensures that utilization is carried out with sustainable practices during Sasi opening.
On March 17, 2020, this group was officially appointed as a Pokmaswas (Community Supervisory Group) with the name Pokmaswas Menarbu with the Decree of the Head of the West Papua Province Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Office Number 10 of 2020 concerning the Establishment and Inauguration of the Community Supervisory Group (POKMASWAS) "Menarbu" Menarbu Village, Roon District, Teluk Wondama Regency. During the open sasi period, the group carried out routine supervision, one of the achievements that this group has made is reporting on the community using compressor tools in the open sasi area, which was then handled by the Head of the Roon District Police Post on March 18, 2020. This is a lesson learned in area management, that supervision is one of the important efforts in managing marine protected areas.
