MARINE BUDDIES SURABAYA CHALLENGE YOU AT SUCF 2018
By: Dian O. Savitri (Marine Buddies Surabaya Community)
Surabaya Urban Culture Festival 2018 (SUCF 2018) held by Suara Surabaya at Jalan Tunjungan Surabaya on April 28th was a series of events to celebrate Surabaya's 725th Anniversary. With the theme "Tunjungan Now" Marine Buddies Surabaya Community participated in the SUCF 2018 Collaborace action.
What is collaboration, buddies? Collaborace is an activity carried out by various communities in Surabaya by challenging participants to complete a race full of twists and turns at SUCF 2018. Collaborace participants will also have to complete missions at each of the available booths. Participants' adrenaline will be pumping as they rush through the crowds of visitors having a weekly night out on Jalan Tunjungan. Each community's mission is different, but the fastest team will get Jazz Traffic Festival tickets. To find the community booth, participants had to follow the radio directions first. So, from there, there is a clue for participants to find the community booth among the crowd of SUCF 2018 visitors. Interesting, isn't it, buddies?
At that time, it was still afternoon around 15.00 Marine Buddies members prepared various equipment for open booth. Although it was still afternoon, there were quite a lot of people who came to mlaku-mlaku (walk) on Tunjungan. It turns out that Marine Buddies' open booth attracted quite a lot of attention from the people who came to SUCF 2018! Together with Garda Pangan, Kampung Dolanan, Good News From Indonesia, Mradio, She Radio, Kolaborasik, Marine Buddies Community enlivened SUCF 2018 where the series of events were very interesting, there were stage performances, contemporary culinary to fashion show.
The most exciting part, we also gave challenge to participants to dance baby shark dududuududu. After the dance, we scored the participants by attaching a Marine Buddies Surabaya sticker as a sign that they had stopped by and completed the challenge at the Marine Buddies Surabaya booth. Interesting, right, Buddies?
We didn't forget to inform about the Marine Buddies Surabaya community, the current condition of the ocean through the #SOSharks campaign. The existence of sharks is decreasing and it is unfortunate that there are still many who do not know the importance of sharks for our marine life. In fact, sharks are the highest apex predator of the food chain. Imagine if sharks didn't exist, the life of the marine ecosystem would be unbalanced. Also, the amount of plastic waste that we use has an impact on the increasing volume of plastic in the ocean, making the marine ecosystem worse and more polluted. If this happens, we Buddies will also be affected. So let's reduce plastic waste by bringing our own beverage bottles, bringing lunch or reusable bags when shopping to make our environment cleaner and become a Friend of Marine Parks by downloading the Marine Buddies app!
