LIWUTO PASI: ARTISTS' EXPEDITION TO WAKATOBI
There are many ways to conserve marine resources. One of them can be realized by creative cooperation between humans and all elements of nature. Often, the richness of the sea, culture, and life of coastal communities can inspire the creation of a work of cultural art that supports nature conservation.
Wakatobi Regency has a variety of historical heritages and a unique and distinctive socio-cultural existence. The people of Wakatobi to this day have patterns and traditions of life known as island and coastal communities, which provide a unique phenomenon for the development of tourism based on cultural values. This is where artists or creative workers, such as painters, dancers, writers, musicians, or from the culinary field, can offer creative ways of thinking to expand the options available to people and marine communities in their daily lives, while maintaining the preservation of marine resources.
Rujak Center for Urban Studies in collaboration with WWF-Indonesia feels the need to continue to promote conservation and collaborative community work, which can serve as further inspiration and innovation.
We open opportunities for art workers to contribute to marine conservation, according to their respective fields.
Titled "LiwutoPasi", which means home in the form of a coral island, this expedition will take place on November 15 - 30, 2014 in the Wakatobi Islands National Park area, using WWF-Indonesia's Pinisi Menami Ship. During the expedition, participants will have the opportunity to experience life at sea and live on the island with the community to explore local culture. The goal is to connect the activities of art workers with marine life, nature conservation, and local communities, and open up opportunities for the creation of art products or programs to be continued and developed by local communities.
This expedition is open to art workers from various fields, by first filling out a form and submitting a number of predetermined requirements.
