LET'S PLANT YOUR TREE IN THE UPPER CILIWUNG BASIN WITH THE MYBABYTREE PROGRAM!
To commemorate the Indonesian Tree Planting Day on November 28 and International Tree Day on November 21, WWF Indonesia relaunched the MyBabyTree program. MyBabyTree is a tree planting program initiated by WWF Indonesia to reforest deforested lands which are vital areas for the sustainability of springs as one of the supports of human life.
What's in the Watershed? ?
Watersheds are often only seen as sources and places where water flows from upstream to downstream, to the beach or coast. Whereas watersheds in a broad sense is a very complex ecological system, in which many contain a variety of natural resources both renewable and non-renewable. Therefore, good watershed management can accommodate, store, and drain water consistently to support community life in a sustainable manner.
Why is the Ciliwung watershed very important?
Water is a blessing for human life but will become a disaster if the amount and behavior cannot be controlled by humans. The capital city of Jakarta and its surrounding buffer cities are often hit by floods. The overflow of the Ciliwung river is often used as a scapegoat for the disasters that occur in Jakarta.
In the last 3 (three) decades, the cool, fertile land and strategically located Upper Ciliwung Watershed has been converted from natural forest and cultivated land for local farmers to commercial areas. As a result, the Ciliwung Watershed, which is a catchment area supporting the Jakarta, Bogor and Depok areas, is now one of the most critically endangered watersheds in Indonesia. The preservation of the Ciliwung watershed is very important because it is often attributed as the cause of the floods that hit Jakarta.
