KKP AND FKKI HOLD OUR OCEAN FILM FESTIVAL
Indonesia is hosting the Our Ocean Conference 2018, October 29-30, 2018 in Nusa Dua, Bali. In support of the OOC 2018, several side events were held, one of which is the Film Festival which aims to increase people's love for the sea. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) in collaboration with WWF Indonesia as a member of the Indonesian Conservation Communication Forum (FKKI) held the Our Ocean Film Festival, at Museum Pasifika, Nusa Dua, Bali, on Saturday-Sunday, October 27-28, 2018.
The screening of several films with marine themes, including the films Plastic Island, Ku Lari ke Pantai, Blue the Film, and the documentary Conservation Province. After the movie screening, a question and answer session followed and ended with a summary or conclusion. The film medium was chosen to educate the younger generation and the general public through entertainment and creative media. The film festival will be attended by several marine experts, including Citizen Journalism Asian Water Birds Census, Biodiversity Warriors, Women Conservation International, and Ocean Witness, so that the audience will be able to have an interactive dialogue. In addition, this activity is also increasingly interesting with the holding of the Coral Triangle Photographic Expedition.
Director General of Marine Spatial Management (PRL) Brahmantya Satyamurti Poerwadi said "The issue of garbage that pollutes our waters, destructive fishing activities using bombs or other explosives, overfishing, catching protected species, using fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly. We introduce the world of marine conservation to the participants. It is hoped that in the future there will be awareness of the Indonesian people in particular, and the world in general, how important it is to protect the sea and the biota in it."
Our Ocean Film Festival will be attended by more than 300 participants each day, consisting of OOC 2018 delegates from various countries, students and student organizations, junior and senior high school students in Bali, photography and cinematography communities, creative communities, civil society organizations, local provincial and city governments, and marine tourism industry players. This activity is carried out to introduce the sea and the wealth in it to the public, especially the younger generation. Thus, it is hoped that a sense of love and belonging will emerge, coupled with efforts to protect the sea.
