KATALOKA FESTIVAL 2017 "EAST SERAM CULTURAL TOURISM CHARM"
Leawana (Lembaga Adat Wanu Atalo'a) founded by the King of Petuanan Kataloka will once again hold the KATALOKA FESTIVAL. Petuanan Kataloka has customary authority over Nukus Island, Grogos, Koon and parts of Gorom Island in East Seram Regency, Maluku.
is a community celebration in Petuanan Negeri Kataloka, East Seram Regency, Maluku, led by the King of Kataloka. This year, KATALOKA FESTIVAL which has entered its 3rd year of performance will take the theme "Enchantment of East Seram Cultural Tourism" which is held spread across several wanu (villages).
Not only performing various dances, KATALOKA FESTIVAL also features exhibitions of traditional clothes, objects of historical value in the kingdom, as well as cultural discussions about the cultural history of each village included in Petuanan Kataloka.
KATALOKA FESTIVAL will be held on December 2-5, 2017.
Agenda of 2017 KATALOKA FESTIVAL:
- Belang (Traditional Boat Parade)
Belang is a traditional boat from Maluku, which is usually decorated with colorful flags and attributes. This boat parade is done to welcome guests attending the KATALOKA FESTIVAL.
- Setting of Ngam
Ngam or in Maluku better known as Sasi is a natural resource protection scheme based on local wisdom. In this KATALOKA FESTIVAL, Raja Kataloka will re-establish Ngam in the Koon Island Waters which is one of the largest snapper spawning locations in Eastern Indonesia to preserve fish resources in Petuanan Kataloka.
- Cultural and Environmental Exhibition
The Culture and Environment Exhibition will feature antique objects from the Kataloka State collection, photos of underwater wealth and conservation trips in Kataloka, ancient photos of Kataloka, production and culinary specialties from Kataloka State and surrounding areas, development exhibitions from agencies in SBT.
- Local Arts and Cultural Parade
The art night will feature various dances and other arts from the lands of Goran Riun and Esi Riun, as well as awarding artists who have been Kataloka art ambassadors representing Maluku and featuring entertainment from local artists.
The cultural parade will be held on land and sea with the route when King Jou Bessy and Sultan Nuku fought against the Dutch in Kataloka Country. A total of approximately 1,000 people will be involved in the cultural parade. All participants of the cultural parade wear Goran Riun traditional clothes.
- Cultural Discussion
The theme of the cultural discussion was "The Role of Adat in the Era of Globalization". Keynote speech: Mr. Hilmar Farid (Director General of Culture RI)*

- Traditional dance
The traditional dances at KATALOKA FESTIVAL are Bongkorey Dance, War Dance, Sawat Dance, Silat Jala Dance, and also a colossal dance that will be performed at the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony begins with the procession of raising the banner of the greatness of the Kataloka kingdom and is planned to be opened by Mr. Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
- A variety of competitions
There are several competitions that will be held at KATALOKA FESTIVAL, namely :
- Sawat dance
- Singing Gorom song
- Drawing and coloring with the theme "My Sea"
- Mothers singing gorom song
- Choosing Ilar Ilwouw (son and daughter) Kataloka
- Hanga Riribun
Hanga Riribun is a meal shared by the entire community, the King, and all the guests present at the Kataloka Festival. The food served at this Hanga Riribun is traditional food that has been around for a long time.
