INFORMATION BASELINE DETERMINATION AND SOCIALIZATION HEADING TO REDD PROJECT DEMONSTRATING IN PAPUA
Jayapura, 03/04/2008 – After the Conference of Parties (COP) 13, UNFCCC was held in Bali, Indonesia on 4 – 15 December 2008, one of the big issues was talking about the possibility in assembling the REDD scheme to reduce the emission coming from deforestation in some developing countries, WWF-Indonesia, as the tangible stride, have been preparing project demonstration or an example project in assembling the REDD scheme in some area in Indonesia; including Papua.

A one day workshop of Information Baseline Determination and Socialization Heading to REDD Project Demonstrating in Papua was held in Jayapura. This workshop officially opened by Provincial chancellor of Papua, Dra. Tedjo Soeprapto, MM, represented Governor of Papua Province. In his speech, the Papua Provincial Government very please the cooperation between the Forestry Official Department Province of Papua and WWF in carrying out the REDD workshop. Furthermore, the Governor said that through this workshop, the parties taking part in it may have the same perception about the COP-13 UNFCCC outline, last December 2007, in Bali, focus on the compentation given to the country which will implement the REDD scheme. On this occasion, on the behalf of WWF-Indonesia, Forestry and Species Program Director, Ahmad Dian Kosasih thanked and delivered an achievement to Government Provincial of Papua for building together the cooperation and initiation.
This workshop was attended by more than 70 participants from varied technical government department, including the provincial government state and regency government of Papua and west Papua, self-supproting society institution and press media. At the end of the workshop, there was an agreement to make a work group that will learn and prepare the REDD implementation mechanism in Papua.
