Jakarta (05/06)- Hundreds of people arrived in great numbers to put their thumbprints in a Indonesian Map-depicted panel measures 4x10 m. The act was a symbolic support for nature conservation effort in a fundraising event called “Monumen Tanah Airku” (Our Fatherland Monument), held on Friday (05/06/2009), in EX Plaza, Central Jakarta. WWF-Indonesia Honorary Supporters; Nadine-Marcel-Mischa Chandrawinata, Surya Saputra, Eka (vocalist of The Brandals), model and presenter Davina Hariadi, as well as a cappella group Jamaica Café have also enlivened the event.
In this uniquely packaged event, each person put two thumbprints. The right one was to make trees “green”, and left thumbprint to color the ocean “blue.” After declaring their support, the organizer took their pictures. Later, all supporters will be awarded virtual medal as an “ecohero” which will be featured in Monumen Tanah Airku Facebook Pages.
Testimonial video and photos of Honorary Supporters were also displayed in the event. Honorary supporters attending the event did campaign and provoked public to give their support by putting thumbprints in Monumen Tanah Airku and join the WWF Supporter Program.
“WWF’s target is to gain thousands of thumbprints from 64 panels which will be exhibited in our next event. Coinciding with 64-years Indonesia Independence Day next August, we will display those 64 panels in public area,” said Maitra Widiantini, WWF-Indonesia Senior Fundrasing Manager.
According to Ahmad Zain from HAKUHUDO Indonesia, creative team designing the idea of “Monumen Tanah Airku”, the use of term “monument” (monument) was chosen because they expected the event would become a monumental act in the form of attitude statements and support from Indonesian people who have great concern for their fatherland. “Petition is commonly executed by giving signatures, we want to make something different by creating attitude statements by putting thumbprints in a panel,” Zain added.
Thousands of ”Monumen Tanah Airku” participants will be featured in supporters’ website (www.supporterwwf.org) and linked to their profiles on social network sites they join such as Facebook and Friendster.
