In July 2008, the number of hotspots in Indonesia reached 1,105. They were mostly detected in Sumatra. The greatest number of hotspots occurred in South Sumatra (282), Riau (201), and Jambi provinces (160). They were also detected in Java, especially in East Java (30). Based on daily data, the peak hotspot period happened on 30 and 31 July, in which there were 117 and 224 hotspots respectively.
