Several hotspots have occurred in the beginning of 2008 (January and February). It was identified there were 977 hotspots in January and 750 hotspots in February nationally (source: NOAA 18 Data via Ministry of Forestry). In January, hotspots mostly took place in West Kalimantan (249), Riau (192), and Jambi (155). Meanwhile, in February they mostly appeared in Riau (391) and North Sumatra (141).
