ESD PROGRAM TURNS SDN 010 BONGAN INTO A GREEN SCHOOL
SDN 010 Bongan in Jambu Makmur Village, Bongan Sub-district, West Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan Province, has been transformed from an arid and dirty school to a clean and green school within 6 years. It started when the school participated in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) training held in 2009. In that year, the school was assisted by WWF Indonesia through the whole school approach.
One of the school's missions is to implement ESD in all subjects with the principle of Active Learning Innovative Creative Effective Fun and Weighty. The Active Learning method, which is one of the methods applied by teachers at SDN 10 Bongan, makes students happy and excited about learning at school. This method invites students to learn actively with the teacher's role more as a guide and supervisor. This different approach to learning has been proven to give students insight into understanding lessons better, not just sitting in the classroom with information from teachers and books alone.
Furthermore, the school is not only the responsibility of teachers, but of all school members. The committee and the community are also involved in the development of the school. Students are given the responsibility of protecting and maintaining the environment. The criteria for the school's dream school have been realized one by one. The school is greener with good waste management, and has had a positive impact not only on students, teachers and the school environment, but also the community around Jambu Makmur Village.
