ENHANCING UNIVERSITY CAPACITY AND ROLE THROUGH TOT SK3 EAFM

WWF-Indonesia, a member of the National Working Group 2 (NWG2), and Maritime Fisheries Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMKP) - Directorate of Marine Fisheries Fish Resources (SDI KP) in collaboration with conducted Training of Trainers (TOT) in accordance with the Specific Job Competency Standards (SK3) for Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM). The activity, which was held in Bogor from 25 - 30 November 2014, was organized sas a form of human resource development which is an absolute requirement for sustainable development in the marine and fisheries sector. The training, aimed at manager-level fisheries management evaluators, was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the Fisheries Education and Training Center (BPPP), academic representatives from several universities in Indonesia that have fisheries and marine programs, and NGOs.
This TOT activity lasts for 6 days and aims to develop human resource capabilities, the development is more focused on fisheries stakeholders in the aspects of EAFM planning, implementation, and evaluation. After conducting EAFM evaluator training, the participants then took the competency test by the professional certification body (LSP) of marine and fisheries to prove that the evaluators have competency as evaluators.
After this training, all universities in Indonesia that have fisheries and marine programs in Indonesia are directed to act as a Learning and Information Center for fisheries with an ecosystem approach in Indonesia. Armed with the Director General of Capture Fisheries Decree No. 18/2014 on EAFM Indicators for sustainable fisheries management, 35 trainees are tasked and act as partners in fisheries management at the Fisheries Management Area level in Indonesia.
