EH SOLO COMMUNITY INVITES CITIZENS TO CARE #NASIBGAJAH
By: Intan Nisa Rasuluntari and Yasmin Nabila - Earth Hour Solo
In order to increase public awareness of World Elephant Day which is celebrated every August 12, Earth Hour Solo volunteers held a series of concrete actions in support of #NasibGajah conservation. The series of actions was opened by a street campaign on August 23, 2015 at the Slamet Riyadi Car Free Day area armed with various simple campaign attributes, such as an elephant installation painted on used cardboard and a photo booth elephant fact that utilizes cardboard and newly used paper on one side.
The volunteers' enthusiasm in conveying facts related to #NasibGajah was met with positive enthusiasm from Solo citizens who were enjoying their Sunday morning at Car Free Day. Photo booth which was made simply was busy being used by residents to take pictures, or just read the facts about elephants.
In addition, every citizen who donates will get a unique and creative token of gratitude created by volunteers in the form of an elephant-shaped key chain made from old newspapers.
The donation of Rp 10,000 will be allocated to help Taman Satwa Taru Jurug Zoo (TSTJ) in feeding the elephants, because to meet their needs, an elephant needs 180 kg of food and 150 liters of water a day. In addition to the street campaign and donation raising, volunteers also invited people to participate in the "Peduli TSTJ" peak action which will be held on Sunday, August 30 at TSTJ. The hope is that this series of actions can create an understanding from the public about the importance of caring for animals, starting from small steps such as #BeliYangBaik by saving paper/tissue and buying RSPO-labeled cooking oil products.
