Before joining WWF-Indonesia, armed with the knowledge gained at Vocational High School majoring in Fisheries Agribusiness, Deni began his career as a Longline Crew, Jaya International Pioneer Company from 2011 to 2013 sailing from Bali to Australia. Because of his interest in the sustainability of fisheries in Indonesia and based on his experience, Deni decided to become an Observer On Board of WWF-Indonesia's Longline Ship since 2013.
As an observer, Deni is required to record all catches obtained by fishermen while at sea. Deni has a big responsibility for the hands-on practice of handling by-catch animals. He is in charge of giving fishermen on the boat a direct example of how to handle endangered animals that are accidentally caught in fishing gear.
All the treatments Deni socialized for fishermen are the implementation of the bycatch handling guidelines summarized in the Shark BMP, Turtle BMP, and Tuna Longline BMP, with the hope of reducing the mortality rate of bycatch animals.
