ALOR DISTRICT PLASTIC WASTE REDUCTION DECLARATION
Focusing in the development of Alor Regency is the vision of Healthy Alor, Full Alor and Smart Alor in 2019-2024, Alor Regent Drs. Amon Djobo invites all parties to care about the environment, especially for the reduction of plastic waste in Alor Regency. This was said by the Regent during the implementation of the Alor Regency plastic waste reduction declaration at the car free day event, which was centered at the Kalabahi City Mini Stadium, Saturday (07/20/2019).
"What must continue to be socialized and applied, in essence, is a culture of clean living. Through concern for the environment, so far Kalabahi City has looked clean, but to continue to reduce the rate of waste generation in the future, we need the support of all parties," said Amon Djobo. The Regent hopes that through the declaration, a joint commitment must be made to increase public awareness of waste. In an effort to increase joint commitment, both the government and the people of Alor, as a follow-up to the NTT Governor's circular letter 660/03 / DLHK / 2019 concerning the reduction of plastic waste. On this occasion, a declaration to reduce the use of plastic waste in Alor Regency was encouraged as well as the launch of the Qlimutu application as a waste reporting and community service. This activity is supported by WWF-Indonesia, Qlimutu application, Plastic Free Ocean (PFON) network, Tribuana University of Alor, Mala Tour, Muamar waste management group and KASI Community with Alor Regency Government through the Alor Regional Environmental Service (DLHD). The coordinator of PFON Alor as well as Lecturer at Tribuana University Kalabahi, Faryda Veronica Kolly stated, "Integration of all parties is needed in waste management, not only supported by the government alone, it also needs the support of NGOs in the field of waste management, elements of entrepreneurs / companies (third parties) and the most important thing is the cooperation of the community itself". It is a common hope that Alor Regency can become a waste-free district. This will happen if integration can run according to their respective capacities. As a series of declaration activities, the inauguration of the Alor waste management group "MUAMAR" was held. The inauguration of the group was carried out by signing the inauguration inscription by the Governor of East Nusa Tenggara, Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat. On the occasion, the Governor said that waste management is one of the main concerns of the NTT government today, because environmental cleanliness is one of the main elements of Sapta Pesona. This strongly supports the tourism development program as the main driving force in NTT Province. Waste awareness should ideally be built from home. Based on Law Number 18 of 2008 concerning waste management, article 12 states that every community in waste management is obliged to handle and reduce it with an environmental perspective, so the Regency Government invites the entire community to be aware and be able to utilize the potential of waste as an economically valuable resource.
