The enormous impact of trawl fishing gear on the marine environment and endangered species such as sea turtles operating in the tropics led FAO to minimize these impacts by establishing the REBYCT program. Through this program, the development of bycatch mitigation technologies and strengthening of management continues to be pursued at the national level.
