BUMI PANDA "GOES TO SCHOOL"
By: Sani Firmansyah
Last weekend (12/10) the Bumi Panda team, an environmental education house managed by WWF-Indonesia, had the opportunity to visit Damian School. The visit was part of the school's open house activities located in Kotabaru Parahyangan, Bandung. With the theme "World Elephant Day", the Bumi Panda team educated and entertained the students in an interactive and attractive way. They were instilled with a sense of love for the surrounding nature through the implementation of a green lifestyle, which has an indirect impact on the preservation of elephants in the wild.
Bumi Panda team set up a booth that provided various activities, such as "Gajah Jalan ke Sungai" snakes and ladders games, a collection of picture books related to facts and conservation of Sumatran Elephants, animal quartet card games, and exclusive photos of Sumatran Elephants in their habitat. Damian School students were very enthusiastic in asking a number of questions, especially information about the animals they were interested in.
In one session, the Bumi Panda team organized a recycling workshop. Used t-shirts were made into useful and unique shopping bags.
"Nature is a never-ending source of learning to be explored, developed, and used as an interesting learning medium for Damian School students," said Mr. Bram, Vice Principal of Student Affairs at Damian School. He hopes that the existence of Bumi Panda can further sensitize and open up insights about the importance of preserving nature.
