Mangroves are ecosystems that play a role in providing refuge and development areas for biodiversity, as well as being a source of life for the people who live around them. For example, in Ujung Kulon National Park, mangroves act as a link between the Ujung Kulon Peninsula and the mainland of Java Island, which is in danger of being severed due to high abrasion rates. This could lead to the extinction of the Javan Rhino population there, while the area is the only habitat for Javan Rhinos at the moment.
BCA supports the Mangrove Rehabilitation (NEWtrees Mangrove) program in Ujung Kulon National Park implemented by WWF Indonesia in an effort to conserve mangroves and improve habitat for Javan Rhinos in Ujung Kulon National Park. In this program, BCA planted mangroves in degraded areas and monitored the growth of the trees through Geotags, as well as socializing with the community to be directly involved in rehabilitation activities.
BCA supports the mangrove rehabilitation program. In addition to contributing to the mangrove planting program, BCA also helped restore peatlands in Bengkalis Regency, Riau, as a result of the recent forest fires. Forest fires are still a problem, not only in Indonesia but also around the world. Forests are one of the main sources of life for living things on earth, providing oxygen and clean air to breathe.
More than that, forests are also home to various types of animals and plants, and can provide livelihoods for surrounding communities or groups of entrepreneurs by utilizing forest products.
