WWF-Indonesia, an independent national conservation organization, is part of a global network of WWF. WWF-ID is currently seeking the best candidate for the position of Marine Endangered, Threatened, and Protected (ETP) Species Specialist. This position will be based in Jakarta, and report directly to the National Coordinator for Marine ETP Species.

This position is responsible to develop strategy and ensuring the best quality of the action plan/work programs implementation to address the issues of Endangered, Threatened, and Protected (ETP) marine species, specifically sea turtles and marine mammals within the WWF-Indonesia working areas, includes to provide any necessary technical guidance/direction and education related to the scope of work for both WWF-Indonesia internal team and external parties. The position also supports the policy and advocacy function as well as maintains good relationships with external parties to ensure the success of WWF-Indonesia's marine ETP species conservation program.

The scope of activities includes:

  • Conduct research to address issues related to populations of Endangered, Threatened, and Protected (ETP) marine species especially sea turtles and marine mammals includes to mitigate its threats within the work area of the WWF-Indonesia marine ETP species conservation program.   
  • Contribute to policy development and its advocacy process on conservation and mitigation actions of Endangered, Threatened, and Protected (ETP) marine species, within the work area of WWF-Indonesia marine species conservation program and being aligned with WWF-Indonesia's conservation strategy based on acquired knowledge (research). 
  • Assist in the rehabilitation of injured and sick marine species with direct species care with necessary medical procedures   
  • Provide educational and informative content on the conservation of endangered, threatened, and protected species of sea turtles and marine mammals, including providing insights and technical inputs for relevant stakeholders.
  • Establish procedures and criteria for monitoring target species and also monitor and review WWF-Indonesia projects and programs within the Marine ETP Species Program about compliance with conservation guidelines and policies. 
  • Provide up-to-date information and consult with relevant stakeholders periodically during implementation, lobbying if necessary, building and maintaining relevant stakeholder relationships 
  • Provide technical guidance to the WWF-Indonesia's internal team for work program implementation of WWF-Indonesia's Marine ETP Species Conservation in the working area.  

Requirements for this position are:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Marine Science, or Veterinary. A Master's Degree is preferred. 
  • Minimum 3-5 years of works experiences in the conservation field and species management.   
  • Having some of the courses about marine species conservation. 
  • Good crisis management skills to handle pressure from project challenges. 
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English.
